Weekend Nursery Assistant

  • The Big Green Plant Centre is a wholesale nursery, serving both trade and members of the public. Exciting new opportunity to join our weekend sales team. We are looking to grow our Nursery Team and have a part-time role available to cover the everyday tasks of a growing plant nursery. This job is suited to someone who likes working outdoors and has a practical, hands-on approach to tasks; can see how their contribution fits in with the smooth running of the Nursery, whilst also happy working with the attention to detail needed to complete tasks efficiently and to deadlines.  They would be comfortable working on their own and as part of a team in all weather

    • Plant care and general maintenance to ensure the nursery is always clean and tidy.

    • You will create dynamic displays, which encourage customer sales.

    • You will confidently answer customer queries and be knowledgeable about planting combinations and looking after plants.

    • Assist with the building of displays and picking customer orders.

    • Maintaining the cleanliness of the garden centre and stock areas.

    • When needed you will assist in other areas of the business and nursery production.

    • Plant knowledge- Be credible and confident in their plant knowledge, ideally supported by a relevant qualification such as RHS 2/3 or equivalent.

    • Strong leadership and team management skills.

    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

    • Ability to work independently

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Must be flexible and reliable with a commitment to working weekends.

  • Employment Type: Part-time (Weekends) additional week-days will be considered

    Hours: Saturday- 9am -5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm

    Location: Uxbridge

Weekend Nursery Manager

  • The Big Green Plant Centre is a wholesale nursery, serving both trade and members of the public. We are looking for a proactive and responsible Weekend Manager to lead operations during weekends - , maintaining high standards of customer service and ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. The successful candidate will have previous experience in a managerial/supervisory role (preferably in retail or a similar customer-facing environment).

    • Oversee day-to-day operations during the weekend shift.

    • Lead and motivate a small team of staff to ensure excellent customer service.

    • Handle customer enquiries – face to face and over the phone. Assisting customers with advice on plant selection, care, and placement, offering expert horticultural knowledge

    • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed to maintain a safe and productive environment.

    • Ensure the workspace is clean, well-organised, and adheres to health and safety standards.

    • Provide weekly reports to senior management regarding weekend activities and performance.

    • Plant knowledge- Be credible and confident in their plant knowledge, ideally supported by a relevant qualification such as RHS 2/3 or equivalent.

Garden Ambassador

  • Greenfingers is a national charity dedicated to creating magical, therapeutic gardens for life-limited children and their families and carers to improve their time spent in hospices across the UK. We create beautiful, well-designed outdoor spaces. Whilst many people may take for granted the simple pleasure of being able to enjoy a garden, for these children, their siblings and their families, the chance to spend time together outdoors and away from the bedside is precious.

    Over the last 25 years, Greenfingers has designed and built almost 70 gardens in children’s hospices, and this is where we need your support. 

    • As a Garden Ambassador, you will support the Greenfingers Garden(s) in your local area. 

    • To ensure our garden support calendar is managed, you will work with hospices in your area to ensure their Greenfingers Garden is well-maintained and continues to be a usable space by:

    • Liaising with the relevant team within the hospice

    • Providing support and guidance to hospice volunteers, as appropriate.

    • Overseeing Greenfingers corporate garden volunteering days

    • Providing monthly status reports, highlighting issues and recommending solutions

    • This is an exciting and new role for the charity, which may suit a presently self-employed Gardener looking to expand their portfolio by supporting a hospice garden into the future

    • Practical hands-on Garden Maintenance experience

    • Plant Knowledge

    • Own Transport & Full Driving License

    • Public Liability Insurance

  • Employment Type: Part-time.

    Time Commitment: 1 day per month - per hospice garden

    Location: various across the UK.

    Salary: £200 a day including travel

    • Conduct on-farm assessments

    • Summarize and evaluate audit findings, and submit reports in a timely manner

    • Communicate findings and results of audits with client site management or appropriate client representatives

    • Develop effective work plans for the completion of assigned audits within a determined timeframe

    • Establish and maintain effective communication with key team members, including audit delivery and client teams

    • NVQ Level 3 in an Agricultural related subject

    • On-farm produce experience (3 years)

    • The ability to communicate with and engage with the farming community and colleagues in a confident and patient manner

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    • Enthusiasm, energy, a keen eye for detail, and a passion to improve standards

Assistant Gardener

    • Garden has a wide scope for many of the broad elements of practical horticulture such as propagation, new planting, pruning, plant care, use of machinery, weeding, growing for the property, mulching and means of organic gardening.

    • This is a horticulturally beautiful garden to work and learn in, and the post holder will support and be supported by the head gardener who has 12 years of experience at this site.

    • Would suit a willing and dependable career changer into horticulture who is wishing to develop their practical skills/currently studying/newly qualified or existing gardener wishing to add to their work portfolio or someone wishing to reduce their current skilled workloads to a part time position

  • Employment Type: Part-time flexible contract on a self-employed basis. For the right candidate additional hours could be possible subject to successful trial period
