Container Unit Manager

    They're the only UK-based grower to partner with a company providing new and innovative growing methods, and they want you to be a part of this.

    • You'll be reporting to the director and have 2 supervisors reporting to you. Between these 3, there are over 60 years of experience, so there's lots of support when you join.

    • As Container Grower Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing the production across 3Ha of protected growing. You'll be growing a variety of crops, producing over 6 million plants annually.

    • You'll be managing processes from seeding through to picking. You'll utilise your technical growing knowledge, covering irrigation, pest and disease management and more.

    • They work with a knowledgeable external agronomist who is there regularly to work with you and provide support.

    • Health and safety will be part of the day-to-day. You'll be working with the team to make sure everything is compliant.

    • You'll be having your say when it comes to planning. They want to hear your thoughts on crop production plans, making sure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goal.

    • The last person was here for over 25 years, so this role doesn't come around very often.

    • This is a hands-on role. Whilst some of your time will be spent in the office, they want you to lead by example. You'll be happy to get your hands dirty, pitch in to support the team and also train them where needed.

    • This is a blended role, mixing technical growing expertise with people leadership.

    • You'll be someone who knows how to grow plants at a commercial scale but also how to bring a team together.

    • Whilst this role focuses mainly on young plant production of hardy ornamentals, you don't need to be an expert in all things trees.

    • If you have experience working in a protected growing environment, whether it be fruit, vegetables or ornamentals, it could be the role for you. As interest in the crop is a must, though!

    • Proven experience in commercial plant propagation

    • The next day might be an office-based day.

    • This could be looking at current and past data, updating forecasts or talking to suppliers.

    • This role will see you spending about half of your time in the office, and half out on site.

    • You might have experience working in a business that is growing crops on a commercial scale and looking to take a step up. That could be soft fruit, protected salads, or ornamentals.

    • You could be working in a technical advisory role for the industry but want something more local.

Grower Sprayer Operator

Darby Nursery Stock

  • For over six decades, we’ve been supplying UK garden centres with British-grown premium plants that look magnificent on shelves from day one. We offer a comprehensive range across six main product categories – Shrubs, Perennials, Clematis, Climbers, Trees and Soft Fruit – all grown slowly and ‘tough’ at our all-weather sites in Norfolk to ensure they are unforced and hardy. Focusing on varieties that we know will both sell well in garden centres and perform well in UK gardens, there is plenty to catch every customer’s eye, from old favourites and A-Z staples, to the more unusual and exciting new introductions.

    The nursery is split over two sites, which offer protected and outside growing areas, producing over 1500 different varieties resulting in over 1million plants a year being grown per season. 

    • Work alongside the wider production team to ensure that all spray operations are completing, whilst helping to create a positive work culture and providing guidance to ensure efficient operations alongside maintaining a commercial quality and speed.

    • Daily tasks would include: biological application, chemical application, fertiliser application, maintenance of spray equipment and record keeping.

    • Record Keeping - Maintain detailed records of all aspects of the crop production.

    • Monitoring of plant health and liaising with the Technical Manager.

    • The ideal candidate will already have experience in a commercial production nursery, using a wide variety of technical machinery for spraying.

    • Required qualifications – PA1 and PA6

    • Desired qualification – PA2
